Excellent Apple Crisp

It is apple season and this is a fantastic recipe!

You can serve this with caramel sauce as the original recipe suggests or it would be great with vanilla ice cream and it is awesome just on its own.

Base Ingredients:
-5 cups apples, peeled, cored and sliced {I used what I had a combination of Granny Smith and Johnathan apples}
-1/3 cup sugar
-1 tsp vanilla extract
-1 tbsp lemon juice
-1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

Topping Ingredients:
-2/3 cup flour
-2/3 cup old fashioned oatmeal
-2/3 cup brown sugar
-1/4 tsp cinnamon
-1/3 cup butter, softened or melted

Process:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a medium bowl, toss apples, sugar, vanilla, lemon juice and nutmeg.
 3. Pour apple mixture into a greased 8 x 8 inch baking dish.
 4. In the same bowl combine flour, oats, brown sugar and cinnamon.
 5. Add the butter.
 6. Stir well to combine thoroughly.
 7. Evenly spread the crumb topping over the apples.
8. Place 8 x 8 dish on a baking sheet in case of spill overs.
9. Bake in preheated oven for 35-45 minutes.
10. Remove from oven and allow to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.  Enjoy!
